Campers must reserve a site via www.nwfwater.com or by calling (850) 539-5999.
Why is this place covered in broken glass? Like, it's everywhere.. Both boat ramps/fishing areas, site #7... Tons & tons of broken glass, years worth. No rules apparently, the couple in site #4 ran their generator non stop for 5 days. Also, the neighbors use this as their personal dog park traipsing thru, off leash with their fugly basset shepherd hound! Rude. Oh I forgot, there's no gate... So everyone who camps here gets to fist fist-fight a hobo before either getting your site or just taking someone else's.
R.I.P. for the Blonde Raccoon that went missing, ? possibly killed, over Memorial Day Weekend. ‘Her’ tree was at Campsite #4. That was HER home. She had babies in that tree…, that have surely perished. No one has seen her since that day when I heard the gun shots ring out. She was used to campers, they ‘invaded’ her home regularly, so she was not scared to be around people. She didn’t hurt anyone. We will miss her. And we will never get to see her babies, would they be blonde too? We’ll never find out.
Lovely campground and the price is right! Well kept, we had lot 7 which is super secluded and by the water. Sadly, there is some dumping in some of the more wooded areas. But we got a bag of apples and about 20lbs of sweet potatoes. What’s not to love?
First of all this place is free!! If you look up this place it will provide you with the way to make reservations!! I try to get #1 site, it is right on the river, very quiet here and the site is big. You are allowed 7 days but you can leave for a day and reserve again. Only portable toilet and no water, bring your own. Picnic table, fire ring and charcoal grill.
This is a great place! You can't beat free! It's a beautiful area with designated camp sites that must be reserved online. It's on the Escambia River and also a small lake (more like a pond). As others have noted, there's some trash here and there. It's sad because there are many trash cans but some people can't be bothered to use them. I picked up three plastic bags full of mostly glass beer bottles on day one. A few can ruin it for the rest of us. Please don't be that person. I would totally stay here again! We stayed at site #7, which is on Mystic Lake, for two nights in December.
