Morefield Campground is located just four miles from the park entrance. The 267 campsites are located within a high grassy canyon filled with Gambel oak, native flowers, deer, and wild turkeys. A camp store offers registration, food, and camp supplies. Firewood, gasoline, showers, a coin-operated laundromat, and a kennel are located nearby. Each site has a picnic table, gravel tent pad, and fire pit/bbq grill. The campground is managed by park concessioner Aramark, and is open seasonally.
Morefield Campground is just off the Main Park Road, near milepost 4. Once you exit Hwy 160 and enter the park, continue on the Main Park Road for four miles until you reach the turn off for Morefield Campground on your right.
We loved camping here. Clean. Most campsites have shade. Showers located at the check in area and you don't have to pay extra for them. Good flush toilets and also clean. Drinking water available in campground. We used dedicated tent area. Nice and quiet.
The only place to camp inside Mesa Verde, easy check in, many sites available to choose from! I read many bad reviews that mentioned poor customer service, I did not experience that. We were quickly checked in and had no issues during our stay. I did not require any customer assistance otherwise. Some people complain about wifi service-it is in and out throughout the site but not a problem for us, we are camping! Beautiful dark sky area for stargazing. Many bathrooms all with flush toilets and running water so that was a plus as well
Morefield is a very large National Park campground with well spaced sites, small but clean bathhouses, and access to good trails and views. It's at 8000 feet, so it can be cold even in summer, so be prepared. There is a good camp store with showers a short drive away. The main Mesa Verde attractions are all much further up the park road, so plan to drive a ways.
