About Campground

This is the site of a decommissioned Atlas F Missile Silo which was abandoned by the Air Force in the 60's.

You will receive a historical tour of the Missile Base property and the underground Launch Control Center with a tunnel that leads to the 186 ft deep Missile Silo. (This is a construction zone, as the bunker is being renovated into an underground home. Be prepared to sign liability waivers.)

Located in the Smokey Hills of Kansas, you will be camping in beautiful fields with great views of a 250 MW windfarm.

Hike over a mile of trails on the property and pick out your own camp spot.

Join other guests at the top of the Missile Silo for a campfire at night and enjoy stargazing.

Just mins away from the local tavern and restaurants in Wilson.

Nearby is Lake Wilson, one of the largest and cleanest lakes in the State, there are water sports and Epic rated mountain biking trails.

Just to let you know this is a primitive Campground. The outhouse has a composting bucket toilet.

We took the tour and were very impressed with the site and knowledge that Matthew had displayed. We appreciated the history. We spent the night in our RV. Such a peaceful night. Slept so well. Thank you Matthew

This is a really interesting stop on your way through Kansas. Matt and Leigh Ann, owners and host have deep roots in Kansas. Matt started his journey and interest of cold war missle silos after finding one as a kid in near his childhood home in Kansas (I'll let him tell you the story) and since he has traveled the world. His energy and ability to share his years of research on Missle Silos, Atlas Ad Astra in particular is incredible.

RV Camping tips: There are 5 back in spots on a 3-4% grade. If you have a heavier rig longer than 30ft ask Matt if you can park near blast doors or on gravel drive. Rains a lot in KS in summer and can be tough to pull up grassy slope. If you have a taller rig, 12ft or more really watch for branches at beginning of drive way. Stay to the middle, I would suggest pulling up, getting out and looking at the tree branches in comparison with your rig to make sure you avoid them. After that pretty smooth sailing. Beautiful views of rolling green acres.

Definetly worth the stop!!!!!!😎

A must see experience. Matthew is a hard working, inspired individual with a wealth of information. The dog friendly campground was nice. Night sky full of stars.

I'm not sure I can top all the other well deserved, glowing reviews given. This site is amazing. Matthew is a fantastic host and is working his tail feathers off to make this a rock star venue for adventurers and academics alike. He is keen on developing sustainable solutions for both earth living & future space travels. The tour he gives is wonderfully well informed & very passionate. He's almost completed the first rentable AirBnb section of the silo, which looks phenomenal. We hope he hits his target & has it ready to roll out in February.

We're really excited about the STEM/STEAM programs he's getting ready to launch. Anyone with a passion for Aerospace/Aeronautics is about to get another great resource outside the traditional academic institution pathways.

Be aware if you choose to camp here it is a dry site for the moment without hookups. It doesn't detract at all from the amazing views, wonderful history and exciting potential the silo is manifesting in this tucked away little corner of Kansas. We'll be making this a regular stop on our route for sure.
