Harriet Lake Rustic Campground is located at the site of an abandoned farm. The open land now hosts a variety of coneflowers and other plants not common in a boreal forest. It also provides opportunities for group picnicking. The lake itself is accessed by a boat ramp and dock and supports walleye, northern pike, and crappies.
Harriet Lake can be reached in many ways. From Tofte, take MN 61 south to FR 343 (Temperance River Rd) just south of the Temperance River. Turn right on FR 343. Go left at the T with FR 166 (the “600” Road). Go right at the T with Co 7. Follow Co 7 through multiple turns, past the intersection with FR 172. Harriet Lake is on the right. From Isabella, take FR 172 off of MN 1. Follow FR 172 to Co 7. Turn left on Co 7. Harriet Lake is on the right. From Finland, take Co 7 off of MN 1 all the way to Harriet Lake on the right.
Very spacious and split apart campsites. We had three large campers on one site with plenty of spare room. The bugs were unbearable at times but you can't go in to the northwoods and not expect that! The outhouse was relatively clean and well stocked. Great lake for recreation, fishing was meh.
Great campground in the actial middle of nowhere. No mosquitoes in mid September when we went, which was incredible. A table and a fire pit completed the experience, and we were very happy to have a rustic campground that wasn't taken.
Big sites, clean and well stocked latreen, plenty of access to good hunting, fishing, canoeing, hiking, 4wheel/snowmobile trails and more.
We camped here 4th of July weekend. We ended up picking this place because the sites at the top were very spread out and private. Site #5 was the best view on my opinion. Caught a couple of northern and 1 walleye. We will definitely go back again someday!
