Nice area to camp, but very hard to find a spot. Most of the lots are always full. Would be very nice if there were more camping spots.

FREE! Primitive and very spacious. Private dirt road, sites with picnic tables and fire pit. Vault toilet. Short walk across the road to the river.

This used to be a beautiful place. Now it's full of disrespectful thieves. All these out of state fishers have ruined this gem. And watch out for a woman named Cheryl and her man they will steal your stuff when you leave. She has blonde hair and is so ugly I nick named her piranha face. They drive a little truck and have a mean dog.

We had a wonderful camping experience here while visit the Manistee National Forest. The Sulak Campground is located off the Pere Marquette River and South Branch Road. While located just south of US 10, when we visited in late June, the Branch Rd Bridge over the river was closed. Campers will need to approach from the south.

This site is shared between the USFS (south side of gravel road) and the Mich DNR (north side). There are twelve sites; each with a fire ring and picnic table. All the sites (USFS only) have some privacy from the main gravel road, but you do notice your neighbors. On the DNR side in the middle, there is a pit toilet available for use. There are also some trails which you can hike to the river with. The boat launch is located at the far east of the site and cars and boats were coming and going until dark. Since this is a USFS site, there are no camping fees but first come, first served.

We first drove in mid-afternoon and found just under half of the 12 sites occupied. By sunset, it seemed as if most if not all the sites were filled. As said above, you do notice your neighbors but overall your site is yours. We did get to wave hello to a few neighbors in the morning. We did have a few neighbors which had bright lights and some music which spilled into our site, but by bedtime it was all quiet.

Overall, I would go back to the Sulak Campground. It's a nice site to visit the Manistee or Ludington. Camp on!
