Head east on Freesoil Road about 10 miles turning left (north) onto Bass Lake Road. Travel 2 miles north to FR 5357. Proceed 1 mile west to the site.
This WAS a rustic campground (similar to Bear Track Campground) many years ago. I'm not sure exactly when the Forestry Service let it go back to the wild. I last camped there in the mid-1990's and about 5 years ago I noticed it was no longer a campground and marked only with a National Forestry road sign. It used to have about 30 campsites around a large figure-8 driveway that ran parallel to the river at the end of the forestry road. You can still see vague remnants of it if you know what it used to look like. Not much to do there now except park to access the river for fishing. It has a few nice overlooks of the river from the high ridge.
Awesome hidden gem in Lake County. Great place for a pooch & a short hike w/ some beautiful views.
