Spent the weekend camping at Big Brutus for the Big Iron Overland Rally. The volunteers were amazing and kept the place very clean and orderly.
Big Brutus is a site to behold. You need to visit the museum and then check out the inner workings of this massive machine. Really fascinating history.
I went here as a young man in the early 90s. It was just a crane in the field. However, it is now a museum with loads of info about the history of the crane and company, and an unguided tour through the crane itself. Very cool and my little girl loved it.
Great place! Cool museum and a great piece of Kansas history. If you're nearby, it's worth a short drive for sure!
Self guided tour with a very informative flyer. We arrived toward the end of the day & the staff made sure we saw everything and didn't rush us through. They were very knowledgeable on all the pieces of the museum.
As a kid, I always remember seeing pictures of my mom and stepdad visiting here and was something I thought would be neat to see someday. Needless to say it did disappoint, and it is massively fun to go tour from the inside to the outside. Lots of history to read about and they give a data sheet so you can do your own self guided tour
