Jefferson Lake Recreation Area is a popular area for camping, picnicking, fishing, and hiking. There are a number of campgrounds available, but none are located directly on Jefferson Lake. For backpacking and day hiking, the Colorado Trailpasses through the area on its way to Georgia Pass and the Jefferson Lake and Jefferson Loop trails also offer day hikers options for long or short walks. Jefferson Lake Recreation Area is a fee area managed by concessionaire located northwest of Jefferson off US Highway 285. There are 2 campgrounds located within the Jefferson Lake Recreation Area. Campsites are $17/ night, and $7/vehicle for day use fees.
From Jefferson, CO take County Road 54 north until the road forks, then turn right onto County Road 37 and follow the road until you reach the fee booth.
Beautiful and a fun place to go for a hike and fishing for some trout. Going there by 6am till 10am is the best time to catch the fish. Anywhere past 10am it tends to get too crowded and noisy to catch anything at that point. They also allow you to bring your small boats here too so ask at the gate when you pay to get in if the boat latch is open for boating in the lake before wasting your time going all the way up there to not be able to sail. Otherwise it's a great time!
Beautiful Lake! Love fishing here! It is at 11,500 so it may be cold. You can have a snowball fight in June!
Breezy, cool day for a hike around the lake. Unfortunately, there are Infrequent spots to easily attain the waters edge. Would be nice if there were more. Especially with a dog. Large and small rocks can be moderately challenging to walk over.
However, STUNNING! Only three small boats on the water. Colors flashing in the rocks, diamonds on the water, mountain peaks and a cloud freckled, Colorado blue sky !
Amazing fishing spots and great cover from the wind in most areas. Plenty of walk in access for solo fishing as well as many opportunities for guided trips in the area. Highly recommend checking this area out for hiking or fishing!
Pretty lake did not know there was a daily fee. Trail around the lake is ok rough in a few spots. I see why it’s popular with fishermen as I saw several folks catch a fish.
