Primitive camping near Alma, Colorado. This 6.9-mile out-and-back trail is generally considered a challenging route, it takes an average of 3 h 17 min to complete. This is a popular trail for hiking, off-road driving, and snowshoeing, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of the day.
Difficult trail, have to go off trail a bit. Water most of the trail, which the dogs loved. A bit busy when you first start, but had the trail to ourselves most of the hike, which we loved. The lake is absolutely gorgeous and worth the struggle 😉❤️ We thought it would be great camping. Saw some Jeeps having fun 4 wheeling on the trail.
Great adventure area in the summer and winter! Hike, bike, jeep, snowshoe - lots of choices! I've driven to the lake in my jeep, hiked to the lake and have even strapped on snowshoes for some winter time fun.
Wheeler Lake has SPECTACULAR views. We spent the entire day out on the trail. We would stop and hike and explore the mines and cave we could find. I highly recommend you check out this trail if you’re an offroad enthusiast!
