For all you die hard campers that dislike motel 6 style camping lots that charge you for all those extra amenities that undermine the integrity of the great outdoor experience....Horse Camp located deep in the heart of the Mendocino National Forest might be that wild edge your looking for. Just drive down the dirt roads and when you see an open space, stake your claim, set up camp, and enjoy the Redwoods in all of there Majesty, right from your exquisitely primitive site. There is no charge to stay at Horse Camp but there is also no running water, toilets, plug ins, no "on site" staff to answer questions, no convenient slabs to put your tent on, there is literally nothing and no one between you and nature, and that is exactly what I like most about it.
Horse only campers and all state forest campgrounds are fee areas, 20dls a night. Really nice area for those who have horses.
I love going camping here. It's a great place to trail ride spend time with my horse. Always clean. And their spots in the creek where my horse can swim. I go every chance I can get.
