Just went there by mistake but great location and shady area picnic table
Moved out once realized that was not the place!😱🥸😱
Beautiful river and forest location.
One of the closest Campgrounds to PDX that feels deeply in the forest.
Vault (pit) toilets.
Last few miles of road has a few "car killer" potholes.
Be aware if you get one of the riverside spots, the path basically goes through the edge of your campsite, but very little foot traffic.
Sometimes camp hosts, sometimes none. If no hosts, firewood available at Thriftway (6 miles) when burning is allowed.
Beautiful closed campground for now. I visited 5/13/19 after hiking the extremely difficult green canyon way trail to Devils Peak Lookout. Nice day use area. Looked like a fairly big primitive campground. Has vaulted toilets, checked one of the bathrooms and it was open. Did not stay the night as the campground is still closed. Beautiful spots right next to the Salmon River. Lots of hiking options. There have been some recent break ins (in cars) at the nearby parking at Salmon River West Trailhead.
Had a great time camping here. Only stayed 2 nights out of the 5 days I paid for due to the fire ban going into effect but still had a nice time. Very quiet and relaxing here. The camp host was great. He does an excellent job of keeping the bathrooms and Campground spotless. We camped at site #10 with nice river access right on the Salmon River. This river is excellent for swimming and relaxing in. Excellent hiking trails that start right from camp too.
I got sent up there to the Mt Hood area for work and decided to go looking for campgrounds. I've never heard of this campground but I will definitely be coming back to camp. Beautiful, old growth timber, a long a river and no highway noise.
