I made a reservation in the morning for that evening with a guy from India who took my credit card number. When I arrived I was told they only take cash as the credit card was just to hold the spot. I was then to take any spot that was open and set up. However, he didn't know which spots were already taken so if one of the workers who lived there came back from work and told me to move them I'd have to. I explained how ridiculous it was that I could be asked to move my spot at anytime during the evening or night and he said if I didn't like it I could go down the road to green valley RV. I did so and they were nice and safe.
Campground is good for a few nights stay. If you are looking for something for kids this is not the place. We have been here for three months. The grass was mowed once, we had to mow ourselves. They don't spray for insects so the kids were ate up anytime they were outside. The shower house is nice, but not cleaned regularly. The wifi is awful! Can't rely on it. The laundry is in the motel and only one washer and dryer. Overall if you have no other choice the stay is ok!
I loved that the site was a pull thru and had water &, of course, electricity. However the grass needed mowing big time and there numerous branches everywhere. We timed it right unhooking as 10 minutes later a quick rainstorm came through. A notice was found on the ground the next morning stating the campgrounds will be closing July 5th, 2 days away. Apparently the city is closing them down: reasons unknown. And I saw by the website this campground was open May 1 of this year; so won't be open very long. The bathrooms were closed due to covid. Understandable there.
It is only OK now, but they are re-building.
When we first pulled up and spotted the "Call the number" sign with the rundown appearance of the area I was concerned. In a few moments after calling a older gentleman came walking out of the large new hotel near the road. Larry handed me a card to fill out and asked me to drop it off at his office up front. He said I could have any spot, but the ones along the outside were bigger. I made the mistake of pulling up to one of the first ones I spotted, it was too close to the highway. I should have pulled further along the road for a quieter site.
The site itself was roomy with loots of maneuvering room. And even with the proximity to the highway the noise was not too bad. We hooked up to the updated sewer, water and electrical. There are large open fields that are great for running the pup, just watch out for the little cactus, they are rough on the pups paws.
When I stopped to drop off the registration card Larry told me that his bother and him owned the place years ago and they sold out to the hotel people. Then after the hotel was built they called and asked him to come back and run the campground. When he returned earlier this year he found that they demolished the office, buried the pool and cut the cable TV lines. Since then they have built a very nice modern bathroom / shower building and updated the water / waste system. Next year they plan to get the cable working again and build Larry an office / residence. (and hopefully get the wifi working)
Overall we liked the place. The noise was not that bad and the roomy sites made this a great place to base our adventures in the Makosika State Park. We will be back to see the progress and this place gets up and running again.
Absolutely the worst campground we have ever stayed in. Weeds and broken branches were everywhere so it looked like no one ever did any maintenance . The woman at the desk when we checked in was very rude just as she had been on the phone when I made the reservation. The only good thing that I can say about the place was the bathroom was clean. Steer clear of this campground.
