About Campground

El Cosmico is an 21 acre nomadic hotel and campground in Marfa, Texas. In keeping with the belief that life should be a balance of adventure and do-nothingness we offer shelter, occasional entertainment, opportunity for learning/doing/making, and access to the majesty of the high plains desert. From its wide open spaces to the vast canopy of stars above, El Cosmico provides temporary liberation from the built world. It is second home to intrepid travelers and wanderers from all corners of the planet.

Accommodations at El Cosmico include renovated vintage trailers, safari and scout tents, Sioux-style tepees, a Mongolian yurt, and tent campsites. The property also offers several communal spaces for guests – a hammock grove, an outdoor kitchen and dining area, a community lounge and mercantile, an outdoor stage, a reading room. We rent wood-fired hot tubs as the burn ban allows, and bikes for exploring Marfa.

Thoroughly enjoyed the experience staying here! It was our first time staying in a teepee, in December no less! The propane firepit and heating pads on the beds kept it warm enough for us (we also slept in sleeping bags on top of the beds for extra heat). The shop is adorable, the staff are friendly, and the grounds are whimsical. It's located just off a busy street, so if you're a light sleeper like me, the constant sound of cars throughout the night made it challenging to sleep. I think next time, we'll stay in something that will buffer the sound of traffic!

Dust and pieces of hair on bed. Freezing day/night, wish they did more to prepare us or accommodate us.

Safari tent was good at blocking the wind. Bed was warm and comfy.

Overall did not enjoy my stay, was so exhausted all we had energy to do was sleep and leave.

Definitely would love some type of partial refund, it was supposed to be a romantic wedding anniversary.

Pictures hard to see hair but it was definitely not ours as mine is long and my husband is black, therefore would have been curly hair (not straight and short).

Had an offensive picture of Jesus in the lobby, that was not appreciated.

I loved this place! It's sort of like camping, with tents and everything you need. I found it very charming. We visited in winter, and they provided us with a heating blanket to stay warm at night, which worked perfectly. You can see the stars at night, it's very close to Marfa's center, and the staff is very kind. They also have a wonderful lounge room with a fireplace where you can enjoy your evening. Plus, you can buy good beers or wine at a reasonable price. Absolutely recommended!

Lovely location. However, we arrived after 11 and were not able to check in and had been without service all day so did not see the instructions to call . Ended up sleeping in our vehicle. The stargazing alone was worth the trip out there. I'll still try again in the future but for now, this is my review.
