This was our first time staying at Drakes, we always stayed at a motel every Memorial Day weekend up the road but it was closed for renovations and has switched owners. Drakes will now become our Memorial Day weekend home away from home. Chelsea is wonderful. She actually sent us a text a few hours before check in to let us know our room was ready if we wanted to check in early!!!!!! She asked us many times during our stay how we were doing. Drakes Island Resort is very clean, up to date, well maintained and walking distance to a beautiful beach that has a very nice sunset! There is also a General Dollar store directly across the street that sells just about everything, including beer and wine, perfect if you end up forgetting something or need a snack. The beds and pillows are very comfortable, no back aches for me this weekend-LOL- just as an FYI though, there appears to be a rubber or plastic sheet under the fitted sheet which makes sleeping very hot, we had the ac down to 68 and still was hot throughout the night, the shower stall is also quite tiny but water pressure is great, because this place was so great as a whole, I am still giving it 5 starts despite the under sheet sheet and the shower stall.

My wife and I have been staying at Drakes Island Resort for the last 4 years. We actually love it so much the last couple years we make it a priority to go for 2 separate weeks. One week early in the summer and another later. The Manager, Chelsey is absolutely amazing!! She is always friendly and helpful. We started going to Drakes because it’s so dog friendly. The rooms and cottages are so clean and well kept. We couldn’t ask for more! Love it there!!

When I booked, I was hoping to enjoy the property's proximity to the beach strand. Weather had other ideas, so we stayed in and enjoyed our pet-friendly room. It seemed recently renovated and a lot of thought was given to conveniences-- I was especially grateful for the hangers and hooks to let our damp clothes dry overnight. We will plan to stay again, and for more than just one night, and we'll try to bring some sunshine with us next time. 🌞
Chelsey is an amazing host! The resort was central to both food, shops, and the ocean (where parking was pretty easy!). Chelsey texted us when the room was ready (early too!) and was so knowledgeable about good food to fit my husband's dietary needs. When we arrived we went right to the perfect temperature pool to begin unwinding. The rooms were clean, had great AC, and a larger mini-fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. The beds were comfy and despite being nearer to the road I didn't notice road noises with the AC on (and I'm a country gal)! I purchased some yogurt for breakfast and didn't have a spoon, Chelsey had some handy! There are also grills around the property for use too.
The best part is this place is SUPER dog friendly! I regret that we didn't bring our pups this round as they love the ocean. What a great place! This wasn't a loud party area either, which we appreciated.
