From Portland: Take Hwy 26 over Government Camp on Mt. Hood to Madras. Upon entering Madras, stay in the right lane. Turn right on 'D' St (third stoplight). Stay on main road and follow park signs for 14 miles. The Crooked River Campground (loop E) ) is the first road to the left after passing the park entrance sign. You can find Cabin reservation information at the Crooked River Campground booth. The Cabins are located lakeside at The Cove Marina.
Awesome view of Mt Jefferson. Take the Crooked River Rim Trail to see a great view of the Sisters, it’s about a mile, a little steep but not crowded.
This place is excellent! Quiet (during off season), I hear it gets busy during summer months. Plenty of room between spaces, power (30 and 50 amp) and water, with dump station at exit. Clean hot showers free to campers ($2 for guests). Phone signal very minimal due to being slightly in the canyon, but park does have wifi. We'll be back, haven't been disappointed by an Oregon state park yet.
Really fantastic campground and park surrounded by natural beauty. The Bend to Madras section of the east side high desert is my favorite all along 97 Oregon through Washington. Plenty to see and do. Fishing boating camping and good restaurants in Redmond and Bend. Definitely beats Washington‘s high desert campground for sure!
The last couple of years, they have really stepped up their game in restoring the campground. The grass is turning green again and they have really tried to clean up the trees and overgrowth. The campground offers nice bathrooms, with showers for campers to use. During fire season, you often will see fire crews using the facilities to clean themselves up and take a breather before they return to the fire lines. Many sites in the campground offer shade, while others are wide open for those that love soaking in the sunshine. This is a boater’s paradise!
