This is a First Come, First Served facility managed through as third party concessionaire under permit. The popularity of Skull Hollow is largely dependent on weather. If you are unable to secure a space at the campground, there are other options available such as free dispersed camping in the area and camping at Smith Rock State Park, Bureau of Reclamation campgrounds at Haystack Reservoir and private campgrounds.
This is a First come first serve pay by the day campground $10 a night. There is disbursed camping right across from the entrance to Skull Hollow Campground. YOU DO HAVE TO PAY TO STAY AT SKULL HOLLOW CAMPGROUND. There are bathrooms and dumpsters. There is also access to trailheads at this location. Fire wood is $6. And the Hosts are great. Pretty slow during the week, but Thursday- Sunday are very busy. Most people stay a night so get a camp spot early. Find your spot first then go get registered. Simple. Speed limit is 10 mph and the road is one way so be careful.
Cool spot to camp. If there isn’t a burn ban you can have camp fires here. Pit toilets. Great access to smith rock and tons of hiking near it. It is ran by the BLM and cared for frequently. Some people stay for the 14 day limit but most are there for a weekend or so. I find this place more peaceful than the bicycle at the park. Great place to camp and hang!
