Crane Mountain is in the Central Adirondacks in Wilcox Lake Wild Forest near Wevertown in Warren County. There are over five miles of marked hiking trails on the 3254 foot mountain. There are many spectacular views from the open areas on the mountain, making this a very popular hike. There is an elevation gain of over 1300 feet. There are very steep sections on this short hike, but this tough hike is worth the view.
By far my favorite hike to do. I do this so many times a season. Kinda steep at at some parts but if you take the right trail it's really not that bad. Definitely recommend to anyone who likes to hike and be active. Not to mention the pond at the top is an awesome place to put a hammock up and take a good rest before going back down.
It has been over 25 years since I last hiked Crane and spent a few days camping at the top. I remember carrying a 80+ pound backpack full of gear up the steep trail, but well worth the effort. Great hike, the view from where the old fire tower used to sit is amazing, tranquility at it's best, with only the sounds of nature. Great place to unwind and just enjoy the moment. Definitely one of my most memorable hike in camping trips. My only regret is that I did not have a camera in that pack, I guess I will have to do it again and take some pictures this time.
