There are 10 campsites available. Trailhead access to Hunter-Fryingpan Wilderness is across the road. Two miles to the east is the ghost town of Independence, an early mining town. Lost Man Family Campground is situated directly across Independence Pass road from Lost Man Trailhead. The campsites are within a lodgepole pine forest at 10,500' above sea level.
From Aspen, CO, take State Rt. 82 east 12.7 miles to campground sign. Turn right into campground.
One of the best campsites I’ve ever stayed at! Bathrooms. Gets chilly at night.
Only 9? Spots I think. Had bathrooms and good space between sites. Great place to stay but it sits higher in elevation so can be very cold at night.
Great location for camping. Make sure you get there early enough to get a good site. Could use more bear boxes though. Otherwise great experience.
Wonderful campsite. Gets pretty cold at night due to the elevation. We camped near the creek and it was beautiful but there were lots of bugs.
On a whim on a Sunday afternoon, my girlfriend and I pulled in, thinking there wouldn't be any sites available, but we got a great one! $25 per night and right across the road from Lost Man trailhead and we were sold! Even though the campground is right next to the highway, traffic pretty much stopped by dinner time and we were treated to a visit by a doe that we named Dora. There's a beautiful little river that runs nearby too.
