We were impressed when we arrived by the scenery but the campground was heavily policed and the lack of pet friendly area/beach really makes it kind of a lame place. Would maybe come back if it was a friendlier atmosphere. Also vaulted toilets were not well-kept.
The camp is billed as rustic so I should give it 5 stars, maybe. We really enjoyed our stay as the grounds were peaceful and lovely and camp was very close to Manitowish Waters and Boulder Junction. The beach though was overgrown with grass and clearly only catered to those who wanted to moor their boats not take a relaxing swim. There was no camp manager available as they only offer the job on a volunteer basis so vault toilets had t.p. but in many the sanitizer was empty when we arrived and still was 3 days later when we left. But, we would return as the well water was good and the areas in the towns are filled with excellent paved bike trails and well marked hiking trails. Just none inside the park
Our family camped at Big Lake for years. We love walking around the campground and we are wondering why there is a barricade that says that the campground is closed. With the Supreme Court ruling, we are curious why the campground has not been opened. We have enjoyed one of the earliest Springs in recent memory, This is especially critical since the Memorial Day Holiday is just around the corner.
Nice campground. Campground host is very nice. Skeeters were horrible but it's just a bad hatch time. DNR reservation website is a joke. Can't reserve a site less than 3 days on holiday weekend even though half the sites are vacant
We loved this campground and are hoping to come back again! It was very clean and well kept. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful! We received a ton of informative papers and pamphlets which were great! The lake and area is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. Highly recommended. We kayaked and saw great sights including loons, bald eagles, and caught a bunch of fish.
