Take Hwy 52 south of Bellevue 3 miles, turn right onto 429th Ave. which is a gravel road, then take first right into the park. The campground is located at the top of the hill on the left. Nelson Unit Park office, Butterfly Garden, Lodge, Nature Center: Located just off Hwy 52 on the southern edge of the city of Bellevue. Once you cross over the bridge, take an immediate right into the park.
This is a beautiful Park with many hiking trails and a newly refirbished Butterfly Garden. The large Lodge accommodates weddings, reunions, and celebrations. The lookout area gives a breathtaking view of the Mississippi River and Lock and Dam 12, as well as the wonderful community of Bellevue, Iowa.
Went to Bellevue State Park the Nelson Unit hoping for an overlook. We were not disappointed. There is an overlook with great views of the Mississippi River, Lock and Dam 12 and the city of Bellevue IA. The park also has a butterfly garden, picnic areas, and a lodge for group events. There are also hiking trails. There is no entrance fee.
Exceptional view. Loved looking out to the Mississippi River. Great place to walk, picnic and enjoy such a spectacular view.
Beautiful park. First time visiting here. Drove to the very top lookout and loved the view. Very friendly park rangers. Definitely recommend stopping here.
