As of Oct 2021 - Haw Creek Falls—Located on Hwy 123, this newly designated Point of Interest will be accessible year-round. Removal of the gate across the low-water bridge and suspension of fees will be immediately implemented, and camping will still be allowed in designated campsites. A slow transition of amenities such as picnic tables, fire rings, and lantern posts will be removed over time as they become unusable or unsafe. Trash services will be managed by the user as “pack it in, pack it out.” Active partner groups and volunteers are helping extend the life of current amenities, excluding trash services. Several volunteer workdays have been hosted at this site in the last several months, which have proven to be immensely beneficial to keeping this primitive area operational. Please note, this area is subject to flash flooding and visitors are responsible for monitoring conditions and taking precautionary measures. Removal of the gate does not indicate the area is always safe during changing weather conditions. Surrounded by a beautiful mature hardwood forest, this campground is located on a small mountain stream with picturesque falls, rocks, and a bluff. Big Piney Wild and Scenic River are nearby. There is an accessible trail to the Haw Creek Falls. Camping - 9 family units. Camping trailers are allowed but no special facilities are available. Access to the Ozark Highlands Trail. The recreation area is closed following the 3rd week of December and reopens the 3rd week of March. Please note that the campground is closed when heavy rain is forecast. Nice little campground with Haw Creek Falls right there. Unfortunately, the Forest Service has decided to decommission it. It will remain open but maintenance will pretty much cease. If a heavy rain comes you will be trapped if Haw Creek rises much.
Haw Creek Falls is a beautiful site in the Ozark National Forest. It is $10 a night. The atmosphere is peaceful and immense, and there is some nice hiking there too. We came here because my friend had been here many years before, and he enjoyed it even more this time around. It is very quiet with only the sound of the falls and wildlife. Not overly populated. No running water, but there are toilets which are clean. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area.
We loved this campground. Free! Two vault toilets that were clean. Fills up quickly on the weekends, but most people head out Sunday morning. Right on the OHT! Tons of points of interest within a few miles. You do have to drive through a few inches of water, especially if it has rained recently.
Visited here for a day. Nice place to play in the water. The kids enjoyed jumping off the rocks etc. The water is pretty shallow so be aware. We had no cell phone service in this area so plan accordingly also.
This is an awesome little free campground. It has about 10 spots and 2 vault toilets. No trash or water so ALWAYS pack it in and pack it out. Gets a little busy during the weekend but during the week is amazing! A couple of smaller trails along the back of sites 6 and 7 I think and the Ozarks Highland trail starts up again across the street from the campground sign. It is a flash flood area so keep that in mind if camping during rainy seasons. Although someone does come through and warns you and also cleans the toilets.
