About Campground

Overview

Twin Peaks Campground is located within Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, in the heart of the Sonoran Desert. This landscape reveals a thriving community of plants, animals, and human stories that echo throughout this desert preserve, chronicling thousands of years of desert living. A scenic drive, a wilderness hike, or a night of camping will expose you to a flourishing, living desert.

Recreation

Along with photography and birding, hiking is ideal here. There is a .9 mile perimeter trail around Twin Peaks Campground, and the 1.2 mile Desert View Trail located near the Group camping area. Beyond the campground area there are miles of trails laced around Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, some easy, others more strenuous. Some of the best hiking is off the beaten trails out in the canyons with a map and compass to guide you. Always carry water and snacks, and avoid hiking during the hottest parts of the day. More detailed trail information is available in the park newspaper and in person at the Kris Eggle Visitor Center.

Natural Features

Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument exhibits an extraordinary collection of plants and animals of the Sonoran Desert. This is a showcase for creatures who have adapted themselves to the extreme temperatures, intense sunlight, and little rainfall that characterize this Southwest region. Thirty-one species of cacti have mastered the art of living in this place, including the park's namesake and the giant saguaro. Here, the life of the Sonoran Desert is protected and allowed to flourish under nearly ideal wilderness conditions. The monument is an outstanding natural preserve where one of the Earth's major ecosystems survives almost unspoiled.

Nearby Attractions

* Lukeville Port of Entry to Mexico- approximately 5 miles to the south of the Kris Eggle Visitor Center.

Charges & Cancellations

**Reservation Cancellations & Changes**

* Cancelling a Reservation: Customers may cancel their reservation prior to arrival both on-line and through the call center. A $10 service fee will be withheld from any refund for a cancellation. Depending on when you cancel in relation to your arrival day, it may be considered a late cancellation (see below).

* Changing an Existing Reservation: When changes are made prior to the cut-off window:

* If a customer wants to switch dates that are entirely outside of the original reservation dates, there is a $10 change fee.

* There is no change fee if a customer extends or shortens a reservation, as long as the change includes dates from the original reservation. If they choose to depart early, they may forfeit the recreation fee for the day of departure.

* There is no change fee if the customer wants to switch sites that are the same price with the same reservation dates in the same facility.

* For reservations made that include dates at the end of the available booking window (also known as the sliding window), you are not able to make changes or cancel your reservation until the site is available to the general public for four days.

* Late Cancellations or Cancellations within the Cut-off Window

* Individual Campsites: A customer who cancels a reservation the day before or on the day of arrival will pay a $10.00 service fee AND forfeit the first night's use fee (not to exceed the total paid for the original reservation). Cancellations for a one-night reservation will forfeit the entire amount paid and will not be subject to an additional service fee.

* Group Campsites: Customers who cancel a group overnight facility reservation less than 14 days before the arrival date will pay a $10.00 service fee AND forfeit the first night's use fee.

* Changes or Cancellations within the Cut-off Window: Once a reservation date has begun, customers cannot change a reservation using the online system or through the Call Center (see below for early departures). If the location is staffed, on-site personnel may or may not be able to assist with changes or cancellations (check with local staff).

* No-Shows

* Overnight and Day-Use Facilities: A no-show customer is one who does not arrive at a campground and does not cancel the reservation by check-out time on the day after the scheduled arrival date (or for day-use facilities, by check-in time the day of arrival). Staff will hold a campsite until check-out time on the day following the arrival date and will hold group day-use facilities until check-in time on the arrival date.

* No-shows are assessed $20.00 service fee and forfeit the first night’s recreation fee for a campsite or forfeit the entire day-use fee for a day-use facility.

If you have a large RV with slide-outs some places have sharp branches that can scratch RV. They are tight to maneuver through. Very nice, clean and lots of trails or day rides around dirt roads.

For having 100+ campsites in a grid I thought camping here was going to be awful, but they actually did a great job creating privacy between sites. They also have events every night. Pretty solid.

Rv park mixed with nature. Great sunsets. They have sizes on sites/reservations. Mine was about a foot short of the max. Plenty of room in site for trailer and truck. roads are narrow and tight getting into site.

Campground is close to visitor center and hiking trails. Was very clean and had bathrooms with cold running water. Tent site had a level platform, picnic table and grill. No fire pits. Depending on which site you reserve, your view can vary greatly.

With so many sites you lose the feel of being remote. Also, a fair amount of noise from the highway plus light pollution from Lukeview.

Organ Pipe NM campground.

It is a lovely, uncrowded campground. And the views are marvelous, of the Ajo mountains across the valley. We used a tent space and it was fine for our small 4-wheel camper pickup. The roads are paved, and each site has a BBQ rack and a picnic table. Some have covered tables as well.

Bathrooms have flush toilets, showers in spring, and are clean and well lit. Recommend highly for this who wish to explore this little traveled corner of AZ.
