I stayed at the Buckhorne Campground a week ago. I am rating this small, family run campground 5 stars because they have earned it! The owner, a retired school teacher of 39 years is truly a man of character. He truly cares about you having a relaxing time and is not looking to price gouge anyone. The prices have been updated on the website and are now accurate; $30 for non-electric,$40 for standard electric/water,and finally $50 for electric/water/sewer hookups. The facilities within the campground are excellent for a family run campground. They completely renovated the Men's rooms as they previously had negative reviews, they have wifi if needed and it works just fine, and the park is small enough to easily walk through it. They have 39 flavors of Hersey's ice cream and VERY reasonably priced too with a triple scoop in a cup only being $5 at the time I went! The owners daughter runs the restaurant and, once again also priced extremely well. I was able to get 16 wings, and 3 things of blue cheese sauce for right around $10 (try finding that price on bone in wings anywhere else). The items in the camp store are of course slightly higher than Walmart (they still have to make money) but very reasonably priced for a small convenience store. I firmly believe the owner and his daughter (both run this place) are genuine, hard-working, good people and you should give them a shot.
Oh! One final thing I did not discuss, location. The location is probably 1-2 miles from Douthat State Park, just as quite, actually I thought it was quieter due to how small the park is, and you have internet if needed. Also I failed to previously mention all campsites with electric/water have Shentel cable hookups as well! Try finding that somewhere else at this price.
In case you're curious of how the price lines up with Douthat State Park. As a VIRGINIA RESIDENT the state park will run you $35 for electric/water (no sewer, cable, or internet available at campsite) and $25 for tent camping with no hookups available. The prices are only that of a $5 difference for so many more amenities. For the price and even if you do not use all the amenities simply to have them available to you makes this campground well worth the money. I fully plan on making this campground a regular stop on my list of places to camp this year.
