Campsite: RTP Lakefront Campsite - Campground

My family stayed in Loop C this weekend. We were in campsite 8. We really enjoyed the location. It's right near the lake, so in warm weather you can definitely take advantage of it. It's a little close to the RDU airport, so you do hear airplanes occasionally flying over. There is also a shooting range nearby. We heard the gun range some on Saturday morning, but it didn't last all day. The facilities were nice. We went in early November. It was nice to see that they have plenty of hot water and the bath house is heated. There are several shower stalls and multiple toilets on each side (men and women). The campsites were nice and maintained. There doesn't seem to be well defined tent pads, but we made due on the fine crush and run gravel in our site. I would recommend checking it out!

Campsite: Johns Spring Shelter — Appalachian National Scenic Trail

We stayed at this shelter on Friday, May 14th, 2021. The shelter is pretty new. We liked the shelter. It really needs a bear box to store your food. We saw bear skat just a few miles away. That night we searched for a long time to find a tree to hang our food. We didn't really find any good trees, so we did the best we could. We liked that it had a privy (outhouse/restroom). The other issue we had was that we had a lot of visitors throughout the night that kept waking us up. We had a couple come in at 10:00 PM, setup a tent and then break down and leave at 3:00 AM. Then we had people going up to see the sunrise at 5:00 AM wake us up again with kids shouting and laughing. Just be aware that this site will have a lot of traffic due to the close proximity of the parking lot for McAfee Knob.
