Campsite: Camp May

Love this place! We stayed in site 3, which requires you to walk your stuff up a small hill. At 9400', this can be a little daunting so be careful. Site 3 is quite private and has a fantastic view. The other sites also looked really nice. You do have to get a permit through the aquatic center in Los Alamos, but it's a fairly quick process and the woman we worked was super helpful. The drive up to the campground from Los Alamos is steep is spots and windy, but not super difficult. Its paved up to Pajarito, and then dirt for a quarter mile. The dirt section is pretty rutted but our Corolla didnt have a problem, even when it rained - I probably wouldn't try it with a lower vehicle though. If you're arriving late, be careful... it seems like a lot of people use the sites in the evening without permit so you might need to deal with that. I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking somewhere beautiful and peaceful near Los Alamos or the national parks.
