Campsite: Woods Valley Kampground

Even though we live just 15 minutes away, we recently spent a holiday weekend camping here with friends, just to get out of the city for a short break. We had a camper, and our friends brought their tents. It was our first time camping here, and everyone in our group (4 adults, 5 kids, 3 dogs) enjoyed the campground.

Despite our party being split with a camper and a tent, the staff was able to put us in two spots pretty near each other, right by restrooms, which turned out very convenient for those who needed to get up in the night. We were able to wander back and forth between our two sites easily.

The restroom facilities were very clean, and in fact the whole campground was clean and tidy. They came by twice a day to empty the trashcans. Our RV spot had a red ant hill when we arrived, and when we asked if there was any way it could be treated, they came out within 30 minutes to spray. We didn't spot any other wildlife around that was a bother (no rodents) other than wasps, but it's their natural season to be out and they just liked the smell of our food apparently. Once we cleaned up from meals, they went away, and no one was stung or bothered much.

Our kids enjoyed using the pool and it was kept very clean. We also brought their bikes, and they had a great time just riding around the grounds. We don't live in an area with sidewalks, so they love it when they get to just ride wild and free (respectful of other campers, of course.) There were other kids in the camp who they got to socialize with as well.

We brought small dogs with us, and the whole campground seemed very dog friendly. There were plenty of waste stations around the grounds to grab bags if we needed them and dispose of their waste.

The store was equipped with firewood, ice, and plenty of other supplies. The staff was friendly. The other campers were friendly. We had to borrow a can opener from one kind neighbor, and another even stopped by and played my husband's guitar and sang a couple of songs for us.

We will definitely consider Woods Valley again for an easy weekend getaway from Escondido/San Diego. Just far enough away from home to feel like you don't have to deal with household stuff for a few days, but close enough we could run back if we forgot something.
