Campsite: Military Park New Orleans Joint Reserve Base/NAS Aviation Arbor RV Park

Naval Reserve base with a well maintained RV park. Level concrete pads on two back to back loops with full hook up and clean, lightly used bathhouses with super hot water shower. Surprisingly excellent Wi-Fi. Full sized NEX and commissary. 13 miles to Algiers Point Ferry Terminal for fast and easy access across the river to the French Quarter. If you have military base access, Highly Recommend.

Campsite: Cottonwood Campground — Big Bend National Park

We booked 4 nights and stayed 2. The triple digit day temps that barely cooled to the 90s made sleeping impossible in the RV so we broke out the tent . Other than that, we loved it. Site 7 has the best shade and the two resident owls favor the trees surrounding it. Be prepared for bird watchers to invade. Camp Host Bonnie runs a tight ship. We appreciated her attention to detail. Vault toilets, bear boxes, picnic tables are spotless. No phone or cell service, not even at nearby camp store or visitor center. Highly recommend.

Campsite: Rio Grande Village RV Campground — Big Bend National Park

It’s a hot one. Like seven inches from the midday sun. Great to have full hookup in a National Park, but you’re camping in a parking lot with no shade. In triple digit temps it’s near impossible to cool off. Each side has a band of trees where you put your chairs and hope for a breeze. On the plus side, there’s a well-equipped store with everything from bread to beer to Blue Bunny and Big Bend baubles. There’s laundry and WiFi plus flush toilets and $2 5 minute showers. There’s a market price gas station and water bottle refills at the nearby Visitor Center. Recommend if you need hook-up.

Campsite: White River Dispersed Camping

This campground in the Sunrise district of Mt Rainier just opened this month. C and D loops are day use only and A and B loops are available on a first come first serve basis. The issue is that more than half these sites are closed due to “hazard trees.” The rangers said some trees are compromised and could fall on campers. With “the Covid,” no maintenance is taking place. What we couldn’t reconcile is that the trees in the campground look a lot like the trees on the trails. It is a beautiful place that is under utilized because of this, therefore 4 stars instead of 5. Camp here for Sunrise trails, up close views of Rainier and three trails of the White River area - Summerland, Emmons Moraine and Glacier Bay. Stunning!
