Campsite: Vero Beach Kamp

I was Very disappointed in our stay here, my Wife and I booked a 10 day visit here, paid in advance, and ended up leaving after 5 days. I try to be objective especially when it concerns a person small business, so this is just the facts and you decide if this is a place you want to visit.

First, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, no matter what site you book when you make your reservation, THEY WILL PUT YOU WHERE THEY WANT WHEN YOU GET THERE. That is their policy, you do not reserve a site, even if they give you a site number. I made reservations for site 96 from Dec28 to Jan1, then was to move to site 99 until the 8th. This was in a nice quiet part of the property, near the pool with good room on both sides. I called the day before coming down from SC just to confirm and was told my site was 415, I asked why was I moved and was told there are no reservations for sites, just dates. I have been to hundreds of campgrounds all over the US and have never experienced this. And as it turns out, site 415 was directly next to the bathroom/shower/laundryroom. As I was a day away from travel I asked if I could be moved, was told no, I asked well how far is the site from the bathroom? I was told it's not bad, pretty far away. Well as the pics show, it was in fact less than 48 inches away from the bathroom, not exactly ideal but they had me over a barrel, it was either deal with it or cancel my trip. So all day every day and all night you could hear people going to the bathroom, doing their laundry, showering, chatting, etc etc. It was terrible, and worse of all was the overwhelmingly awful sewer smell, from either the bathroom vents which were inches away, or from the the swampy muddy ground, probably both. After the first few days we were miserable and left as soon as we could get out.

Issue number two is the mud, this campground is literally at or below the water table of the Indian River. The ground seems to be constantly damp and wet. HOWEVER, what really made this worse was the day after we arrived, campground employees brought in a tractor, dug a large hole right in front of the bathroom, put a sump pump in it to drain all the water away from THAT area to put gravel down, and subsequently pumped all that muddy water directly ONTO MY SITE. Literally all day they pumped water onto my parking spot, making it a huge mud puddle and soaking the grassy area all around, so that when I pulled into my parking spot it was now a mud pit, complete with that swampy smell on my truck, my shoes, etc. The next day one of the employees came up to me and said, "Yeah that's awful, we had to get the water away from the bathroom, but don't worry, we will come take care of you but not til sometime next year, hahaha" Well we left on the 3rd and they never came to put any gravel on our site, we had to walk thru mud and water just to get into the truck every single day, these pics were taken the day I left when it had 5 days to dry up.

So end of the day this place is terrible. The camp sites are ridiculously close, you are literally crammed together, the ground is muddy and damp, it smells all the time, and the owners just don't seem to care. I gave them the opportunity after I left to refund my money for the days I wasn't using, and they said ''We'll let you know', which is a no. I knew they would not refund my money, but I wanted to give them to chance to do the right thing. All they had to do was refund my money for days I wasn't going to use and I would have called it a day and moved on. They chose not to, which shows me how they simply don't value their customers. Caveat emptor, stay away from here.
