Campsite: Falcon State Park

Stayed here a week. The facilities were nice and clean and the park itself was very nicely kept and very quiet. The shower/bathroom was clean and had good water pressure.

I'm more into hiking and this park being on a lake is obviously geared towards boaters and fisherman, but I still enjoyed my stay here. (Might be a 5 star for those folks.)There is a loop trail around the park that's pleasant to walk, just carry a stick in front of you so you don't keep catching webs in your face. Javelina roam the park throughout the day, and there's a nice variety of birds to see. The sunsets have been spectacular!

The lake is still way down even with all the rain this spring, and will probably take years to recover, but I'm told it's much better than it was just a year ago.

The closest town is Roma, about 20-25 minutes away where you can get anything you might have forgotten or need, plus has all the standard fast food restaurants and a fairly well stocked grocery store for as small as the town is.

All and all it was a nice stay. I don't know if I would make a trip expressly to come back, but if you're passing through it's a nice off the beaten path place to camp.

EDIT: Bumping my review to 5 stars. My biggest complaint about the trails is that none of them followed the lake. It was always off in the distance, probably because it is so low. My last day I visited the day use area. Because the drought has gone on so long, there are well-worn trails leading down to the shore line beyond the picnic concourses which have paths through trees and grasses full of wildlife and great views of the lake. You might not see much of the lake on the designated trails, but I really enjoyed this overgrown shore area. Really wish I had explored more earlier.
