Campsite: Wes Watkins Reservoir

We stayed 9 nights (5/29/21 thru 6/6/21) but left that day even with 1 more paid night. Our 1st 2 nights we had restrooms where we camped but the main 2 areas had closed signs for their bathrooms & showers, with 2 portapotties at the 2 sites. Then the 3rd day after we had just used the restroom (6:48am) they came & closed ours! Without any notice of why DURING Memorial Day Weekend! We finally asked the next day, & every day after… why & they said there were sewage pipe problems. I get things happen but still charging full price when ALL facilities are down is not ok! To make matters worse we (my 2 kiddos & I) were talking about it to the 2 guys camping next to us (which is a story in itself…!) then about 10 min later, a maintenance guy came by & the 2 guys asked him what we had just asked the front gate about, when this would be fixed… and what about showers…. Difference was when the 2 guys asked the maintenance guy this he said he would talk to manager about getting a voucher for showers (this was 6/5 around 7am) later that day we find that the 2 guys were given the vouchers! Yay right?!!? Well no because we (again my 2 kiddos & I) DID NOT get any! Went to front gate to ask about this & young lady said she was new & didn’t know anything about it to come back later when the other lady (one I had been asking about the sewage issue & reopening everyday) so when I went back up this evening (as we are packing in the storms a night earlier than we had already paid for so we can go FIND a shower…. She said she didn’t know anything about vouchers so I explained about the neighbors & maintenance guy that we had all talked to and they got some she said maybe they went to his house & I said NO they got them to fire lake Grand Casino (down the road) she said she didn’t know how & I explained that the maintenance man had said he went through manager for it… so she said she didn’t know what to say… and not sure when would be fixed (however now the issue is why some are getting vouchers but a woman with 2 children are NOT for the SAME amount of days camping and paying there… went back to camp to finish packing up & a few minutes later she showed up with a number to call to the maintenance manager. I called the number he shows up with 2 police officers!!! One I’ve seen patrol… he was like NObody here would have said that we don’t give vouchers… I assured them it is exactly what happened! They say they will go over to the guys camp to see what exactly happend … they went over there talked then never came back over to “assure me” the guys didn’t get one or anything! I have gone there fir 15 years & camped most summer long, after this I will NEVER go back there and NEVER recommend any there again!!! My 1st summer of lake hopping alone with my kiddos and they tried (in more than just this one way which I will not get into…!) to make this a horrible experience! I wouldn’t recommend anyone going there if you are a single woman or if you are not part of the “good ole boys club”!!!! It was bad enough didn’t feel as safe with these ‘neighbors’ who kept coming over to camp and hardly talk just watch, but what the ‘maintenance manager’ Nick did showing up like he did & making a scene, after they left and didn’t come back to say anything, the 2 neighbor guys sat and stared at us the rest of time we were packing! Glad we left a night early….!

Also & more disturbing, You can have dogs there but again if you are a single woman they will park & watch you & FIND any reason to come over! Like while neighbors dogs are running all over tell you your 13 year old dog laying by the table needs to be tied up …! I would recommend river camping nearby at the Canadian river or diving 15 more miles to Shawnee Twin Lakes! BOTH are way more safe & peaceful & you don’t have to deal with drunks or sketchy ‘patrol’! Again if a good ol boy it’s ok (always fine when I was married and with my husband!) but alone, single with a 16 year old daughter … go at your own risk! My 18 year old son was there also, but he is Special Needs not as visible as my daughter & I.
