Probably the best hike for the average person in this park.

1. The Appalachian trail approach is among the best maintained trails on the 2200 mile stretch with wide, manageable rock steps and nearly-level walking surfaces all the way to the top (and there are outstanding interpretive signs and examples of how this trail maintenance is achieved by mostly volunteers at the trailhead).

2. The distance is relatively short (3-4 miles depending on the route(s) you choose).

3. The views are excellent.

4. The tower, binoculars, and benches at the summit are enjoyable and give people who need a break a nice opportunity to take one after thei get to the top.
