Campsite: Lake Forest Campground

While most of the campsites available are acceptable, none are amazing. They all have a table and fire pit, which is nice. However, when I came in mid-May, a decent portion of the nicer sites were closed due to what I can only assume is poor maintenance. They were essentially flooded, which made the campground feel like it was on the edge of a swamp. You are a 3 minute walk from the boat launch and pier, so you can't see the Lake from where you camp.

The price has risen to $25 per night, and while I have to think it's got to be nicer at other times of the year, I cannot recommended a stay past a night or two right now. Spend the little extra to stay at a nicer campground nearby (there are so many) and truly enjoy your visit. If they lowered the price to $10-15 I could still probably recommend it.

Campsite: Windy Point Campground

This is my favorite campground on the Tieton River. With great water accessible sites and clean facilities, this campground has remained at the top of my list for over 25 years and counting. The views of the night sky from the campground are spectacular, and the ridge right above the campground (Forest Service Pass/Discovery Pass required to access) has even better views! (see photos taken from a phone) The river is incredibly fun to take a softshell kayak or raft or tube down during the summer months, though be prepared for some cold water as the river level rises close to Labor Day. I'd recommend a wetsuit for skinnier folks. The camp hosts here are so awesome, and they're also very friendly! The best campsites are down on the river, and reservations are available for them. Overall, I definitely recommend a visit.
