Campsite: Salt Rock State Campground

Salt Rock State Campground is a public recreation area that preserves one mile (1.6 km) of wooded riverfront along the Shetucket River in the town of Sprague, Connecticut. The state park offers RV and tent camping sites, swimming pools, and river fishing. The state curtailed camping services in 2016, reinstating them in 2018. Facilities include tent and recreational vehicle (RV) sites, some of which have utilities. There are also restrooms, a dumping station, showers, and 2 in-ground swimming pools. There is a swim school (Bubbles to Butterflies) that uses the pools for swimming lessons from 10a.m. to 5p.m. during the week days. However, during this time campers are more than welcome to use the pools. Reservations must be made at least 2 days in advance. 11 month reservation window. The maximum length of stay is fourteen consecutive days. If you have a 14 day reservation, all members of your camping party and your camping equipment must leave the park for 5 days before you can return. In an effort to protect Connecticut's forests from the introduction and spread of destructive insect pests - in particular the emerald ash borer and Asian long-horned beetle - the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is taking the following action:

Prohibiting the bringing of firewood into state of Connecticut campgrounds and state parks from other states. As an alternative, firewood can be either purchased at the camp stores within the state campgrounds or at local retail sellers of firewood.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection greatly appreciates the public's assistance in helping to protect the state's natural resources and apologizes for any inconvenience this initiative may cause. One vehicle per site limit. Parking available for second vehicle in visitor lot. Campers must bring their own equipment for recreational activities (horse shoes, swimming tubes, sport equipment, etc). Also, we do not provide each campsite with a grate/grill. Campers need to bring their own.
