Campsite: Encore Sunshine Key

My recent stay at Sunshine Key Resort was unfortunately not the serene retreat I had hoped (and paid) for, and it's with reservations that I share my experience. There were several notable drawbacks that significantly impacted the overall tranquility and relaxation promised by the resort.

The most glaring issue was the persistent noise, particularly from early morning chores performed by resort workers. Instead of waking up to the soothing sounds of nature, guests were greeted with disruptive clamor, hindering any chance of a peaceful start to the day.

The dog park, advertised as a secure space for our canine companions, proved to be anything but. Kids frequently used it as their personal playground, leaving dogs and their owners feeling uneasy about entering. This not only diminished the enjoyment of pet owners but also raised concerns about the safety and comfort of the animals.

Adding to the disappointment was the misrepresentation of the separate dog walk area, which was promoted as a safe and lush space for leisurely strolls with our pets. Contrary to expectations, it was a meager one-foot strip of grass along the camp's fence and main road. This misrepresentation was not only disappointing but also misleading, leaving dog owners without the promised safe and enjoyable environment for their pets.

Another notable issue was the restriction on pet pens, preventing us from creating a safe and comfortable space for our dog outside the RV. This limitation resulted in our furry companion spending nearly two weeks confined within the vehicle, significantly impacting both his well-being and our ability to explore the resort together. This policy, in contrast to the observed activities of other guests, seemed unnecessarily restrictive and raised questions about the consistency of rules enforcement.

Adding to the perplexity was the observation of guests hanging a dead deer from their fifth wheel. Not only did this create an unusual and disconcerting sight, but the fact that they proceeded to clean and cook the deer right there in the resort seemed out of place. This activity, more akin to a hunting lodge than a vacation resort, left me puzzled and concerned about the overall ambiance and appropriateness of activities within the confines of the resort.

The beach, touted as a relaxation haven, was marred by its unfortunate proximity to the highway. The absence of a privacy screen meant that attempting to relax by the beach was out of the question, with semi-trucks, motorcycles, and other motorists speeding by at all hours. This compromised the peaceful atmosphere and made it challenging to enjoy the natural surroundings.

The lack of observed quiet hours further impacted the overall experience. From the morning chores to the loud music and boisterous children in the evening, the resort failed to maintain a calm ambiance, making relaxation elusive for those seeking a tranquil escape.

Trash disposal also proved inconvenient, with sparse dumpsters spaced far apart. Efficient waste management is vital for a clean and enjoyable environment, and addressing this issue would contribute significantly to a more positive guest experience.

In conclusion, while Sunshine Key Resort may appeal to a certain demographic, particularly families with energetic children, it falls short as a destination for those seeking relaxation. The noise concerns, misrepresentation of amenities, and lack of observed quiet hours need to be addressed for the resort to fulfill its promise of a tranquil and enjoyable retreat. Consider alternatives if serenity is a top priority for your vacation.
