Campsite: Gunnison National Forest Soap Creek Campground

One of my family’s favorite places on Earth! So serene, such abundant wildlife and ever so very peaceful. Bears 🐻 do live there, as do deer and fox, elk and 🫎 moose. If you’re lucky you’ll see a few. We’ve stayed in tents and stayed in an RV. Both are great! Some things to think about if it’s not an area you’re familiar with. There’s no running water, pit toilets provided. Keep all “smelly” things locked away, such as perfumes and all types of food. Never go to sleep in a tent with food. Critters can smell VERY WELL! We just kept those things in the car or trunk.(All food in the trunk.) Excellent place to disconnect and actually TALK to your family! We loved watching the sunrise Down the mountain and sunset Up the mountain!! ⛰️ We hiked trails, did some fishing 🎣 in the creek, and warmed up next to lovely campfires 🔥. We usually go in July or August when the Texas heat is just too much. Therefore, it can be a bit of a shock to awake to 30 degree F mornings!! Just make sure to pack some warm clothing and good hiking boots. If you’re a true “camper” it’s one of the very best hidden gems in the USA. If you need hot showers and flush toilets… I recommend a hotel in Gunnison. They have lovely places to choose from!
