Campsite: Monterey Pines RV Park - Military

WARNING. Only open to military and DOD employees. We always appreciate these facilities exist and reasonable prices. There are no inexpensive options near Monterey. Very nice manager and camp host. Note that most sites are back in, most are short, and not a lot of room for parking. No fire rings. Google Map it, it is on the runway of Monterey Regional Airport. Fortunately there are no red eye flights but private planes come and go all night. Large, clean bathroom and free laundry. We will be back next year.

Campsite: RV Park of Victoria

Nice lady in office, gave us cookies and military discount. Level site. Doesn't look new but well maintained. We will make this our regular stop when passing this way. Note name confusion. There is also a Victoria RV Park.

Campsite: River Ranch Resort

Best 55 + park in Rio Grande Valley if you love to fish. Good neighbors and lots of activities. Great management. We came for one season and decided to reserve our lot permanently. Five minutes from the grocery and hardware store in Rio Hondo, 20 minutes to big stores in Harlingen, 45 minutes to South Padre Island. Update 2023. We are very happy here. Some of the older residents are giving up their lots so there are often vacancies. River front lots with a spectacular view even come available occasionally. We feel welcome here.

Campsite: Military Park Kingsville Naval Air Station Rocking K RV Park

It's a $25 campground. It is excellent for what it is. Restricted to military affiliation. Very nice lady at the MWR where you sign in. Full hookups. Everything works but does look old. Yes, if you are on the circle the utilities are on the wrong side so that your door is open to the inside of the circle. Bathroom is nice but not air conditioned. There is construction where they are building a new campground area.

Campsite: Grangers Campground

An excellent campground at a very good price. One quarter mile from a KOA which costs more than double. Grangers does not have a pool but it does have a very clean, well maintained bathroom. The KOA is right on the freeway so it must be loud all night. Grangers is far enough away from the Interstate so it is quiet. Large, level, grass pull through sites. We paid in the lawnmower store during normal business hours. Polite man on a golf cart led us to our campsite. Full hookups but our sewer connection was too far from the electric connection so we just dumped our tanks on the way out. Highly recommended.
