We are normally state park campers, so we are used to secluded sites– individual sites hidden from neighboring sites by a good number of trees / brush. This campground is much more like an open hillside with some picnic tables and fire pits set out. It's so open that it's hard to even tell where your site ends and the next starts. In addition to being out in the open, there are also no clearly defined pathways so other campers were walking through our site all weekend. We're friendly people, but our dog can be reactive to other dogs so we were pretty stressed all weekend about the dogs walking through our site. Water on site was nice, but I would give that up in a heartbeat for some privacy. I would also say that camper etiquette was missing– lots of yelling way past sundown and before 7 am.
The bathrooms were okay. Again, not nearly as clean as a state park, but the free (as opposed to coin operated) shower was a great touch.
I'm still giving it a 4 star review because you simply cannot beat the water! The tide was beautiful and created a huge walking beach at low-tide that we were able to let our dog run around on. If you have them, bring your own kayak/canoe (rentals were crazy expensive).
Also stop for campfire wood on the road in– they price gouge at the campground store.
