Marsh has changed over the years, but it's still a quiet, great place to camp. The fishing is good, too! We have the best luck trolling with flatfish or anchoring down in one of the holes and using powerbait. The pine beetle has ravaged the area, so it's not as densely wooded as when I was a kid. It's still a great place to escape the heat and enjoy the stars.
Matt was our campground host this year and he was amazing! He went above and beyond to help us get our trailer in place. He was attentive to details and brought our kids treats each day. He had lots of stories to tell and we enjoyed his company! He kept the bathrooms impeccably clean and smelling so great.
We came at the end of the season and the road getting up the mountain was awful and super washboardy, so know that going into it. We're talking 10-15mph. Once you get up there, there is plenty to see and do.
One HUGE complaint. We had to vacate the campground for nearly the whole day. The Forest Service decided on 5 minutes notice (we were cooking breakfast) that it was the day to spray for pine beetles. They said they'd cover our trailer and never did. We finally got to see what chemical they were spraying because the Camp Host hounded them for one. Bare minimum should have been providing each camp site with an MSDS sheet. It felt unsafe. I felt bad that Matt caught our frustration. It was extremely irritating to waste a day of vacation taking down, setting camp back up, and finding randoms stuff to do for a day for something that could have waited until the next week when the campground was closed for the season. Unfortunately, he was the messanger and had to catch everyone's frustration. Had we had adequate notice it would have been an easy thing to accommodate. This was no fault of the Camp Host, but 100% a Forest Service workflow issue.
