Pretty nice place to camp with friends for a weekend. We opted for a screened shelter just to have a locked space to store our items when sleeping/out. Raccoons were prominent in our area at night, so as always be sure to put food/trash away. The day use swimming area is roped off part of the lake with picnic tables and grills nearby.
There aren't a whole lot of trails at this state park but I thought the trout pond was amazing. The trail leads you right to the pond and you can see the fish coming to the surface right from the bank. The trails wraps around the primitive camping area opposite of the pond.
It rained on us most of the trip but that didn't take away from the experience. We had a great time and it's just a quick drive from the city. Flying ants and daddy long legs are everywhere here. Don't forget the insect repellent.
The only drawback I can think of is that the screened shelter spots are so close to each other. We reserved two spots but if you were to reserve only one keep in mind that your neighbors will most definitely be within earshot.
