I cannot say enough about this whole area. One of my most favorite places to get away. High clearance vehicle required. I personally won't go up there without a 4 WD but I tend to take obscure trails and get stuck. So stay on the road. The land is USFS and PG&E (I think) so you must be self sufficient and that means packing out your own excriment as well. Please do not bury it around the camp sites or take a dump in the water (some do and it's disgusting) More people there this summer than I have seen in a long time. Also, Faucherie Reservoir is in the vicinity and worth a visit. The sky, at night, will blow you away. Both are perfect for kayaking.
