Campsite: BLM Mallard Cove Campground

We went the weekend before Labor Day and here is some feedback regarding our trip :

1. The water level was low due to the time of year. It was about a 200 foot walk up a decent size hill. Our 7 to 11 year old kids were able to bring the lighter belongings up the hill. (Sleeping bags, pillows, food, etc). It's definitely a workout getting everything up and down to the campsite.

2. Check with the Marina about campfires and cooking. When we booked our spot the website indicated that we could use the fire pit and stove, but when we arrived they locked everything up and threatened at $300 fine for having any type of fire. As you could imagine that was very inconvenient figuring we planned on cooking meat every night and had no fire

3. The mosquitoes are really bad, so prepare accordingly.

4. Campsite 8 was the closest to the water and campsite 7 was directly above 8.

5. Like any public campsite, it was fairly loud until 1am and then the noise started back up around 7am.

6. There is one sign that's tough to see from the water that indicates that there is a campground It's right at the beginning of the tree line, so keep a close eye out or you will pass the campgrounds.

7. The stoves don't actually have a grill either so take that into consideration when deciding what you are going to cook.

8. Don't tie your boat up to the shore. There are enough rocks that it will definitely scratch up your boat. We anchored about 10 feet off the shoreline with no issues.

Overall a nice spot, but it would be way better when the water level is higher and obviously no fire or cooking kind of ruined the trip for us. Especially that there wasn't even a courtesy call to the people who had reservations after they put the fire restrictions on the campsite. The lake is awesome though and I would recommend checking it out earlier in the year.
