Campsite: Stay Nantahala Cabins & Yurts

The yurts are nice and are situated on a beautiful piece of property right on White Oak Creek.

We have stayed at these yurts and other StayNantahala cabins several times over the years with family and friends but we will not be returning.

We booked the yurts for 4 nights but asked to cancel our reservation due to an abnormal and severe weather event caused by a recent tropical storm in the Gulf region that was expected to bring heavy rains with possible flooding and strong thunderstorms to the area for the duration of our reservation.

We expressed our concerns about being in the yurts during such a severe weather event considering their proximity to the creek and also considering that the yurts are essentially just a heavy membrane draped over a framework of lattice and 2x4s.

I don’t think anyone who’s familiar with yurts would consider one to be an ideal place to ride out the kind of weather that was forecast for the area.

None of the yurts have any adequate covered outdoor space where you can hang out during rain.

In bad weather you’re simply out of luck and stuck inside.

Via email correspondence. We made it clear that we felt that they were being needlessly stringent about their cancellation policy considering the abnormal weather conditions and let them know that we would no longer do business with them if they would not cancel our reservation and issue us a refund or rebook us at a later date. They did not care about retaining our business though.

Lakes End or StayNantahala owner/ management were callous and indifferent to the fact that severe weather was looming and gave no consideration to our history as repeat clients or to the many referrals we’ve sent their way since we first stayed at the yurts shortly after the first two were put up.

Be warned that the owner and/or management co have a take no prisoners, too bad, so sad attitude regarding cancellations inside of 30 days.

Considering the cost (almost $400 per night with fees and taxes) we decided to chance it.

As expected it rained almost the whole time we were there. Thankfully we were spared from the heavy thunderstorms but the rainfall was significant enough to cause some small rockslides and bring down trees in the area.

Paid almost $1600 to watch TV, take some naps, take the dog out in the rain every few hours and just look out the window and watch it rain and rain.

Where there was an opportunity be understanding and ensure that we continue to spend our vacation dollars renting their yurts, cabins and boats and eating at their restaurant they opted to forfeit any of our future business over one reservation.
