Campsite: Little Red Tent Camping Area — Caprock Canyons State Park

Camped there on July 15th 2022 for 5 days in Little Red Tent Campground. No showers or water or electric hook up in that campground. No resident camp host, primitive camping which is what I enjoy. There were fire rings, bbq grill, overhead cover and a picnic table on a cement slab for each camp spot. There is a short walk from 25 feet to 100 ft from the parking lot to each spot. The parking lot was centrally located. One set of vault toilets, one male and one female, no wash station. It was a bit warm, 105 to 107 during the day and 90+ at night. The canyon itself was up to 117. You can take dogs on the trails at Caprock, but beware of the heat of the ground, it was considerably hotter than the air and will burn your dogs feet. Beware of Buffalo (there are lots and it is free range), coyotes, snakes and cacti. We didnt have any negative encounters, but the potential is there. Other campgrounds in the park have differing conditions. There is no Rv campsites where I was. There is one rv campground with water and electric, no sewer hookup, but there is a dumpstation. Best bet is to make reservations ahead of time. My campground showed full on rec.gov but there was only 2 out of 20 or so campsites occupied the entire time I was there, people don't cancel their reservations.
