Cape Alava is one of the most picturesque areas of the wilderness coast. There are multiple campsites with primitive composting toilets. This area is by reservation only, so be sure to reserve in advance or be prepared to show up at the Port Angeles ranger station very early. Bear cannister is required. Extensive tidal pools and mudflats, with abundant wildlife. Seals and sea lions can be heard from the nearby islands. Incredible sunsets on clear days, and magnificent views of the Milkway. One of the best places in ONP. An easy hike too, only about 3.5 miles in through old growth forests. Fresh water present.
Strawberry Point is accessible from a trail departing from the southern end of Third Beach. Parts of this hike can be impassable during high tide, and feature steep rope assisted ascents and descents over promontories. The area is popular in the summer, with a permanent ranger station in the summer located at nearby Toleak Point. There isn't good freshwater at Strawberry Point; the nearest is at Toleak Point. f you don't mind huffing it a bit for your water, this area will be less crowded than Toleak Point. Some great sunsets in the summer months here, as well as abundant wildlife. Saw river otters and deer in the predawn hours, and several bald eagles.
