Very beautiful location despite the horribly-neglected campground with uneven, rutted, and poorly-planned campspots...the reason for 3 stars. Hard to get to with our 32ft fifth wheel and Dodge 2500 up the long, rough forest service road. We thought we wouldn't make it at times! Vault toilet has been welded shut, the trash recepticals are overflowing and maybe are emptied once a month. Watch for loggers coming to saw down trees near the campground in the middle of the night and at 5 in the morning. This happened our first night there and the odd behavior caused us to backtrack about a half mile back along the road to a more spacious clearing up on a hill. That turned out to be a better place to camp and we spent 2 weeks enjoying the site. If you attempt to camp in this area, bring water up from Espanola or closer, bring a black tank tote or bucket potty, make sure your trailer has plenty of clearance, and your tow vehicle has plenty of power and off-road tires. Verizon cell service will be sporadic with a cell booster and internet browsing will be slow. Expect some logging trucks and weekend ATV traffic. But overall, a very relaxing, scenic spot with amazing views and sunsets. We were kinda sad to leave.
This is ludicrous!! I called to see if they had a space for our 34ft 5th wheel and the first question the staff person asks me is if I have pets. I wondered what that had to do with anything since our pet lives in our trailer that would occupy a spot (our dog doesnt have his own camper) 🤔. She then she told me that all "pet" spots were full. Uh, what?!?!? That makes no sense whatsoever. In my 4 years of full-time RVing across the country, never have I come across pet status (or pet reserved spaces) as a qualifier for being rented a space for my 5th wheel. I don't know what is the issue with Cheyenne, but after inquiring with many RV parks in the area, the town is unfortunately very unaccommodating to RVers which I just don't understand given it's a major hub for travelers.
