Campsite: Percy Lake Trailhead

Parking is NOT FREE. It costs $5.30 for a day pass. We did the 4.1 mile out and back trail to the second reservoir. Pretty hard uphill climb for the first half up to the reservoir as it’s 99% uphill the whole time. The first reservoir was frozen over which made for some fun rock throwing. The second reservoir water was so clear and blue! Tons of fish in it. There was almost no one on the trail which made it super peaceful. Definitely a beautiful trail with tons of connecting, more difficult trails that we didn’t have time to explore.

Campsite: Grassy Lake Dispersed Camping

FREE dispersed campsites in between Yellowstone and Grand Teton. First come first serve. You will have to drive a gravel road to access them and depending on which site you’re able to secure, it could be a long drive. These campsites provide a public restroom with toilet paper, a picnic table and a fire ring. There is plenty of prime firewood laying around the campsite. You just gotta go gather it. We stayed at campsite #1 which has 4 different sites at it. Each campsite can hold a certain number of campers. For these sites to be free, this was probably one of the best campsites I’ve stayed at. Campsite #1 is not a far drive at all and is very close to the nearby lodge and the hot springs. It’s about an hour drive to both Yellowstone and Grand Teton. Not the most convenient location for the national parks but it’s a beautiful place. Especially in the fall when the foliage is golden.

Campsite: Shadow Mountain - Dispersed Campsite #10

FREE dispersed camping along this rough dirt road. We stayed at a very forestry site. Plenty of firewood to collect along side the road. The campsites have a fire ring and lots of space for cars. We stayed the last day of September and had no issues with mosquitoes. Weather was still pleasant, just a little chilly at night. Some spots have a better view of the Tetons than others. It’s first come first served so it’s all down to chance which one you can get. Only 45 min away from death canyon trailhead.
