If you want to get away, this place is perfect. The river is a short scramble down a steep path, and the forest is a nice mix of evergreen and chaparral. We went in the high season (mid-summer), and it was nearly deserted, which is a good thing.

A slight caveat; the last 4 miles are not paved, and have some pretty rough spots. This is an advantage, but be ready for a bumpy ride.
