This campground is incredible. Right in the middle of Badlands National Park, you are surrounded by an amazing landscape and wildlife and at the night the Milky Way is so bright you can take a photo on your phone of it. Walking through the trails was like being in the video game Breath of the Wild. Grasshoppers and prairie dogs everywhere! The Buffalo do roam around -and through - camp. Kind of cool and terrifying - Don’t be stupid when they come close.
Back country camping is allowed. This is definitely a good place to park your vehicle and backpack in. Dispersed camping is free - there are about 25 sites. The registry for dispersed camping is at the head of the main loop, across from the first pit toilet. The registry for back country camping is at the back of the loop, near the second pit toilet.
