This place oozes with character, and as it turns out, is one of several quirky gift shops/variety store/lunch counters that dot both Route 44 and Route 6. This one stands out because of the giant black bear by the side of the road. The store is a conglomeration of thrift shop, used books, snacks and fun apparel for the whole family. In truth, this is not your Hallmark style gift shop. They sell guns and ammunition. And the sweatshirt I bought needed to be washed due to its unique smell, and not because it just came straight from the manufacturer. The parking is a little tricky because you simply pull in from the road. Fortunately its not a very busy stretch of Route 44. Despite its rustic appearance, this paranoid mom felt perfectly safe going in with just her kiddo with her. The owner was very friendly and answered my nosey questions with candor. Check this place out. Don't drive by. You might enjoy the experience. PS 4 stars not 5 because they really could stand to cycle out some of the merchandise.
