Stayed here on a 5 day off grid trip to John Day and painted hills. There are a handful of sites able to accompany a 30’ travel trailer or larger motor coach. We stayed in site seven which is next to the half mile nature trail to another site. There is a large open area beyond this site and the dogs enjoyed it. It rained the day we were there and there were only two other campers in the campground. There was no T-Mobile cell service but it was peaceful in the rain. We were able to get an FM station and that was good as we got a weather alert for damaging hail that went south of us. We enjoyed this location for its isolation but went farther west to camp and explore the painted hills. The dredge in Sumpter was very cool and they let you pan for gold in the river. We visited and were very impressed with the Kam Wah Chung heritage site.
